PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
Mr. Butts has 45 years of
experience in practical engineering. Forty years have been devoted
exclusively to the extraction of minerals and salts from lakes, oceans, salars,
and underground deposits.
Mr. Butts participated in the
design and operation of a 35,000 acre solar pond complex, now in operation at
Ogden, Utah. He designed solar ponds for FMC in Argentina, for the Bureau of
Chemical Mines at the Quidam Basin, China. He has supervised the building of
hundreds of kilometers of solar pond dikes on every continent. He has aided in
the design and operation of plants manufacturing potassium sulfate, potassium
chloride, sodium sulfate, sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, soda ash,
borax, sulfur, lithium carbonate, lithium chloride, sodium and potassium
nitrate, iodine, bromine and other chemicals.
From 1982 to 1996,
Mr. Butts was vice president of GSL Solar Consultants
and Advisors Inc. He consulted with clients in the United States and abroad.
This includes salt plants and refineries in over 30 countries. In addition to
practical engineering experience, he has given training lectures in China,
Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Uganda, USSR, and the United States. 1n 1998, IMC
Global purchased Great Salt Lake Minerals and renamed it IMC Kalium. Mr. Butts
now consults with IMC and with other clients under the name of DSB
INTERNATIONAL INC.
Mr. Butts received The
George Harris Chairman’s Award for engineering excellence in 1995. He is an
honorary Research Fellow at the Center of Saline Lakes, Academy of
Geological Science, China. He is also a Fellow of the American Institute of
Chemists.
